How to use this running pace calculator

Choose whether you want to solve for pace, finish time, or distance. A typical 5K pace calculator flow uses a distance and finish time to find the average pace. A marathon pace calculator flow usually uses a race distance and target pace to estimate the finish time and split table.

You can enter a standard race distance, switch between miles and kilometers, or type a custom distance. The calculator converts the values behind the scenes, then shows pace per mile, pace per kilometer, speed, and evenly paced splits. The split table is designed for planning and checking a race pace chart, not for predicting how your body will respond on race day.

What the result means

Pace is the amount of time needed to cover one unit of distance, such as 8:00 per mile or 4:58 per kilometer. Speed is distance covered per hour, such as miles per hour or kilometers per hour. Finish time is the total elapsed time for the selected distance at the calculated pace.

This pace calculator assumes even pacing. That is useful for comparing goals, checking a training run, or building a simple race plan. Actual splits may change because of course profile, turns, weather, water stops, congestion, and effort level. Use the numbers as a reference, then adjust for the course and your current fitness.

Method notes

The calculation uses the relationship between distance, time, and pace. When distance and time are known, pace equals total seconds divided by distance. When distance and pace are known, finish time equals pace multiplied by distance. When time and pace are known, distance equals time divided by pace.

Unit conversion is included so the same race pace calculator can show min/mile and min/km. One mile is treated as 1.609344 kilometers. Split rows round display values, so a final row may be shorter than the interval when the race distance is not an exact multiple.

Examples

5K pace calculator

A 25:00 5K is about 8:03 per mile or 5:00 per kilometer. This is a common way to translate a goal time into race-day splits.

10K pace calculator

A 10K at 7:15 per mile finishes in about 45:03. Switching to kilometers shows the same effort as about 4:30 per kilometer.

Half marathon pace calculator

A 1:45 half marathon requires about 8:01 per mile or 4:59 per kilometer when run at even effort.

Marathon pace calculator

An 8:00 per mile marathon pace estimates a finish near 3:29:45. Review fueling, terrain, and late-race fatigue before using it as a goal.

FAQ

How do I calculate running pace?

Divide total time by distance. For example, 25 minutes divided by 3.1069 miles gives about 8:03 per mile.

Can I calculate finish time from pace?

Yes. Choose Finish time mode, enter the distance and target pace, then calculate. The result shows total time and split rows.

Can I calculate distance from time and pace?

Yes. Choose Distance mode, enter elapsed time and pace, and the calculator estimates the covered distance in miles and kilometers.

What is the difference between pace and speed?

Pace is time per distance, such as minutes per mile. Speed is distance per time, such as miles per hour.

Does this work for walking or cycling?

It can convert distance, time, and pace for walking or cycling too, but the examples and wording are built around running.

Does the page save my entries?

No. The calculation runs in your browser and does not require an account. Copy your splits if you want to keep the plan.
